Mens Swimwear
Attention all men! (and all women dying to spruce up their man's swimwear wardrobe! ). There's no excuse for dragging out the same old swimwear year in, year out, anymore and there's certainly no reason why a particular favourite style can't be traded-in for an updated, and affordable, 2010 model! Speedo-style briefs, boardshorts and trunks have been given a makeover by leading designer swimwear labels incorporating better fit, functionality and a big splash of fashion-forward style. Advances in fibre technology and attention to the growing men's fashion and apparel market has resulted in designers presenting collections of all new, affordable swimwear options for men.
2010 Trends in Trunks
For many years the men's swimwear market has remained relatively static with very few new innovations, designs or fashionable prints introduced beyond the standard boardshort, trunk or brief styles. However, designers have recently begun re-inventing mens swimwear , introducing an explosion of niche styles and performance styles in bold, colourful prints and body-accentuating cuts.
Men all over the world can now confidently step out in everything from thongs to mankinis and while those particular styles are not for every man, there are some great new variations on both the traditional brief and trunk styles in very contemporary and funky prints and colours. The modern man (and the woman shopping for her man!) can now find a wide range of boardshort styles and leg lengths, briefs that include high-performance racers and classic Brazilian sungas and trendy trunks in boyleg and square leg cuts. - think mens underwear styles transformed into swimwear and you'll have an idea of the broad range of cuts.
The current season's look is sporty but also stylish and neons are a big colour story running the gamut of blues, from navy to light aqua, degrees of red, touches of yellow and neon orange highlights. Monochrome schemes of black, white and grey tones are another strong colour trend in 2010.
Square Legs, Boy Legs & Sungas
Square leg and boyleg cut trunks are a big trend in 2010. Similar to briefs but with a more conservative cut, square leg and boyleg trunks are tighter than boardshorts and traditional trunks because they use new fabrics with properties that ensure a form-fitting shape. Funky Trunks' signature tight swim briefs and trunks are all made with the exclusive C-Infinity, a breakthrough chlorine-resistant fabric technology that's great for frequent pool use , both recreational and competitive. The Brazilian Sunga is emerging as a popular alternative to briefs (or speedos) with its slightly wider sides and more flattering, looser fit. Beach Brasil offers a few different design options from the basic, traditional Brazilian sunga styles with one side panel to patchwork and 2-side panel variations. JETS Man keeps with the very cool monochrome palette for their boyleg styles and feature an elastic waist band with eyelet feature and drawcord, as added detail. The Velocity Boyleg has a waistband without draw cord and is a super tight, body-accentuating fit. Funky Trunks are big on using the whole spectrum of the colour palette to render their architecturally and culturally-inspired prints and really turn out some very 'funky' trunks! In fact the Funky Trunks prints are very contemporary and eye-catching - from hawaiian florals and mad geometrics to bold stripes and zigzags!
Briefs & Boardshorts
Funky Trunks and JETS Man also have great ranges of speedo-2010-style briefs - in the eclectic patterns and colours that are the signature of Funky Trunks and the subtle black-grey gradient favoured by JETS Man in their latest collection. Boardshorts never disappear from the men's swimwear radar and in 2010 the re-interpretation of the boardshort is executed superbly by JETS Man in the Montage Collection that adds an injection of multi- colours and motifs to the grey/black theme in both classic board short and swim short styles.
Racers & Rashies
Racers gets a performance boost and trendy lift from being merely functional swimwear with the newest collections from Rival, Funky Trunks and JETS Man in a range of dynamic print and cut options. Rival's racers all have full-front lining and corded waist and include the Basic black Racer, the 8cm Resist Racer in Navy or Black and the 15cm Ethan Racer with wider sides and classic leg line in two-tone grey and black with white piping. Rival also makes the Active Resist Rashie which is 100% polyester with flatlock seams available in short or long sleeve styles. The evolution of mens swimwear designs from single primary colours in practical, but limited, designs to today's bold and exciting prints, comfortable and fitting fabrics and broad range of styles has taken an area of men's apparel that was once an afterthought, to the forefront.
